2014: Week One

2014. Wow. Time flies.

Wednesday, January 1

It was B’s last day of his nine-day vacation and in B-style, he waited until his last day off to check off his “around the house to do list.” We set off on errands to get supplies for the list and decided to hit Arena Sports in Redmond so the kiddos could bounce. They’re so fun to watch. They pal around with each other and play with other kiddos. It’s all about meeting “new friends” every time we go somewhere. About an hour in, Blaise jumped off the end of a slide and landed badly; I saw it but didn’t think much of it given how many jumps and falls he does daily. A few minutes later, he was limping over to me. We called it a day and left to finish our errands before heading home. It was a simple, nice start to 2014.

Thursday, January 2

B went back to work and while we missed him, it was nice to get back into the swing of things. Especially nice knowing it was just for two days. We had a busy few weeks between our normal outings, Christmas, and B being home so we took the day off and just stayed home. It was also the start of my return to running; the kiddos root me on while I run in the garage (they get iPad time). B came home to a spaghetti dinner and I left to meet friends for dinner, then a little shopping at Target.

Friday, January 3

Another lazy, home day. It’s nice to have those once in a while. I also ran in the garage again. Lucky B, he came home to another dinner, baked pesto chicken this time. Delicious. It was a standard evening: dinner, bath, bed for the kiddos; mom and dad time downstairs. We’ve been movie buffs lately… rather, catching up on movies since Blaise’s arrival. Thanks to Amazon Prime, we have the option to watch movies for free or rent them for a few bucks. Jack Reacher was a better movie than I thought, especially for not being a Tom Cruise fan (never have been).

Saturday, January 4

Thanks to the amazing B, I slept in until 10:30am. Much needed. After a lazy morning for B and the kiddos while I slept, we got things moving and decided we’d go see Frozen. It was the first time the kiddos made it through the movie experience (we left mid-way through Planes last summer, bad movie anyway). They had a blast. Blaise was relaxed in his seat munching on his popcorn; Laine was enamored with all the music and princesses (kid loves princesses). The animation and music was very enjoyable, the story has a ton of holes… perhaps I’ll give Hans a read one of these days to get the whole story. The movie ended around 4pm so we decided to get dinner. Since the kiddos sat for almost two hours, we stopped at a park before going to sit more at Red Robin. After we got home and the kiddos went to bed, we watched Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, another great flick.

Sunday, January 5

Instead of playing games on my phone the night before, I started reading Where’d You Go, Bernadette? I got sucked in after a few chapters the night before, and ended up reading the entire book most of Sunday. B saw that I was caught up in the book so he took the kiddos to the grocery store, then to the playground at Marymoor. He said they palled around with two other kiddos between swinging and sliding. The weekend ended with B working on some computer stuff and me finishing the book. Back to the grind the next day.
