Last year of single digits! Baby turned nine in early October. Yes, we still call her Baby. I think she’ll forever be Baby. It’s weird when we hear people call her Vaile. We’re like, who?! Whomever she is, she’s such a great kid. This one is our energetic one, the Energizer Bunny. She. Never. Stops. I don’t think her mind ever stops either, she does everything a mile a minute and we love this about her.
Like all of our kids, Baby is an amazing kid. She has all the qualities that make for a wonderful human. She’s smart, funny, caring, energetic, inquisitive… to name a few. This one will surprise us. She’s always been our most feral kid and the one who asks question after question—I think she’ll end up being some high-powered attorney or surgeon. Whatever she ends up doing, she’ll do it 10 times better than it’s been done before.
Baby’s birthday was on a Monday and that wasn’t ideal to celebrate. Not only does she have soccer on Mondays, a few of the other kids also have activities. We decided to celebrate on the Sunday before her birthday, with both her party and our standard family celebration at home.
For her party this year, she chose Arena Sports. She wanted a flag football party and they offer that option. We’ve held parties with them before and it’s easy. And having a party there is super easy; you just need to show up. With cupcakes (or cake). They handle everything else. It was a perfect day also, no other party was going on at the same time so we have the entire facility to ourselves. The kids played flag football, bounced on the inflatable, and then gathered for pizza and cupcakes. Another successful party on the books.
At home the same night, we celebrated as a family. Dinner, cake, and presents. The standard. I think she had a great pre-birthday birthday. Overall, it was a great Sunday! And of course, on Monday, her actual birthday, she took cupcakes to school and soccer practice to celebrate with her friends.

The nine-year-old.
Oh, haha! It’s probably worth noting this year they forgot to make her cake. I ordered it at a bakery we’ve used countless times before. When I went to pick it up at the agreed upon time, there was no cake. They totally forgot to make it even though they had the paperwork. They were super apologetic and lucky for them, I’m an I get things happen kind of person. I wasn’t mad. I mean, it wasn’t ideal but it’s not like they didn’t make the cake on purpose. They ended up taking another cake and quickly modifying it with football decor and writing, and we called it good. They gave it to me for free, so it’s all good.
